Human Trafficking is one of the largest and fastest growing criminal activities in the world. Innocent individuals are being transported across international borders, often by air, and then sold into lives of slavery and sexual exploitation. Given that these passengers are often using genuine travel documents, they are not intercepted at the point of departure by security agencies.

Many airlines, either as a result of government initiatives or out of a sense of moral responsibility, are now taking proactive steps to identify potential victims of human trafficking and are developing programmes to alert passengers to the risks and educate airline personnel how to identify trafficking indicators and the steps that can then be taken to mitigate the risk. This course provides an introduction to the issues surrounding Human Trafficking and its link with air travel and will help delegates develop strategies to combat the plague.

Objectives

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:
− Understand the scale of human trafficking
− Appreciate the high risk routes and trafficking trends
− Recognise vulnerable individuals
− Distinguish between traffickers and victims
− Cite case studies relating to slavery and sexual exploitation
− Develop reporting and alerting strategies
− Build awareness of human trafficking

Train-the-Trainer Format

This is an interactive course. On the first day, delegates will be provided with information and data that will serve as a knowledge base on which to build creative campaigns to heighten awareness of human trafficking. On the second day, delegates will actually work within groups and develop, and analyse, programmes on assigned topics.

For airlines interested in our conducting a generic aircrew awareness programme, we can run either half day or full day seminars for your crew.
